Islay’s classes are designed to hold space for students to expand their mind, challenge their perceptions, investigate their bodily experience, and to connect with the teachings of yogic wisdom traditions. She considers yoga asana as the vehicle to investigate and internalize yogic philosophies and concepts. She incorporates options and choice into her offerings to facilitate an equitable platform for students to celebrate personal agency while making mindful decisions about their practice.

MINDFUL MONDAY

This class blends the low to the earth postures of yin yoga, pranayama, and meditation. Students are encouraged to relax their muscles, bask in stillness, and play their edge while holding postures for several minutes. This slow and mindful practice encourages students to deeply connect with the present moment; allowing everything else to fade into the background.


YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga utilizes passive stretching to apply moderate stress to the body’s connective tissues : the tendons, ligaments, and fascia. This low-to-the-earth style of yoga incorporates principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Elements Theory. Students are encouraged to relax their muscles, bask in stillness, and play their edge while holding postures for several minutes. Benefits of this practice include increased joint mobility, rehydration of the connective tissues, and restoring Qi flow throughout the body. The option to receive hand-on-assists is offered during this class.


CANDLELIGHT VINYASA

Candlelight Vinyasa is designed to improve flexibility, build strength, and empower students to cultivate a sense of curiosity about their practice. In the cozy setting of a candlelit room, this class incorporates pranayama (breath work), slow and intentional sequencing, heat building sun salutations, and strength building technical skills to work towards a peak experience.
