There is deep value in practicing yoga together. When we honor the truth of our own experience, we begin to recognize and respect the individuality of others; nurturing a resilient, diverse, and compassionate community.

Islay’s public classes invite students to explore the mind, investigate sensation, and connect with the depth of yogic wisdom. Asana becomes a pathway, not an end point, through which philosophy is felt, questioned, and embodied.

In a world that moves quickly and asks much, these classes offer a pause: a space for self-care, collective care, and quiet transformation.

YIN YOGA, WEDNESDAY

Wednesdays, 5:30 – 6:45pm
Hosted by West Side Yoga
25 West Fountain St. #108, Providence, RI 02903

Yin Yoga utilizes passive stretching to apply moderate stress to the body’s connective tissues : the tendons, ligaments, and fascia. This low-to-the-earth style of yoga incorporates principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Elements Theory. Students are encouraged to relax their muscles, bask in stillness, and play their edge while holding postures for several minutes. Benefits of this practice include increased joint mobility, rehydration of the connective tissues, and restoring Qi flow throughout the body. The option to receive hand-on-assists is offered during this class.

FLOW AND INTENTION

Wednesdays, 7:15 – 8:30pm
Hosted by West Side Yoga
25 West Fountain St. #108, Providence, RI 02903

This thoughtful, breath-centered practice blends yogic philosophy with intentional movement. Class begins slowly, allowing space to arrive and settle, before moving into functional strength and mobility drills that build heat and awareness. Flowing vinyasa sequences offer opportunities for creative exploration, precision, and presence. The practice winds down with grounding postures and a spacious savasana, inviting rest and integration.

Expect a balance of challenge and care — guided with clarity, curiosity, and reverence for the inner experience. Hands-on assists are offered with consent to support your connection to self and practice.
